We need CARE WING candidates not CRUEL WING.

CARE. How do we get progressives to promote it?

Empathy is the soul of democracy, ethical business, human rights, and freedom. It makes “care” the foundational legal concept and “respect” secondary to effective, constant governance of public discourse. Empathy and the duty of care are central to effective government. A progressive standard of care should be the theme of every candidate seeking any office, including that of a caring, decent person in a nurturing family.

Our Declaration of Independence declares universal care for everyone, not just a monarch. Our founders listed all the ways that King George III did NOT care for our early ancestors as reasons to “institute a new Government.(1)” They called the King’s carelessness “repeated injuries and usurpations.” Conservatives want to return to a dictator's tyranny.

Our Constitution promotes general welfare for “We the People," not just a monarch. From our beginnings, progressive voices have called for a 100% caring economy versus a 1% cruel economy. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) Preamble committed us all to govern our lives with the duty of care by teaching empathy for and responsibility to humanity.

Authoritarian respect for the power of empathy to corrupt their limited care government is significant. Limiting empathy to conservatives is the goal of limited government. Their respect for progressives does not translate to care. Yale Historian Timothy Snyder said history will remember the COVID-19 pandemic as a time when conservatives were KILLING THEIR PARENTS IN BAD FAITH. Their PROJECT 2025 promises to dismantle democracy’s duty of care for everyone. The felon candidate has said that he will be a dictator from day one, will round up progressive vermin, and kill us to steal our property. For example, would the property of progressives assassinated by the state go to the next of kin who are conservatives? 

Right-left terminology for our political divide is pathetic framing. We must frame the care/cruelty divide between progressive democratic republics and conservative autocracies respectfully.

Progressivism says I can respect you, but not like you. However, progressivism says it is illegal to respect you and not care for you. But conservatism, especially the Putin wing of the GOP, says cruelty is okay. Go to https://dictionary.law.com and enter “respect” in the legal term search field, and you will find no results.https://dictionary.law.com But enter “care,” and you will get six unique definitions for [1] care, [2] careless, [3] due care, [4] duty of care, [5] reasonable care, and [6] standard of care. 

“Care in law means if a person "exercises care," a court cannot find them responsible for damages from an accident in which they are involved.”

“Carelessness is negligence and the opposite of careful. A careless act can result in liability for damages to others.”

“Due care is the conduct that a reasonable man or woman will exercise in a particular situation, in looking out for the safety of others.”

“Duty of care is a requirement that a person act toward others and the public with the watchfulness, attention, caution and prudence that a reasonable person in the circumstances would use.”

“Reasonable care is the degree of caution and concern for the safety of himself/herself and others an ordinarily prudent and rational person would use in the circumstances.”

“Standard of care is the watchfulness, attention, caution, and prudence that a reasonable person in the circumstances would exercise.”

Whose standard of care shall we use - progressive empathy or conservative cruelty? That's the question each juror in a court of law will decide, usually unconsciously. The UDHR calls itself the “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations,” i.e., the common standard of care. Since many elected officials create laws, i.e., protections and empowerments, wouldn’t it be better that those laws be based on “care for all” versus “cruelty for some?” Finally, since care IS a legal concept behind all legislation, shouldn’t our candidates make care and empathy central to their campaigns? I think so. We should demand it from them.
