What will be our Standard of CARE?

Progressivism or Conservatism? Freedom or slavery?

In my last post, I wrote about the legal concepts of care, careful, due care, the duty of care, reasonable care, and the standard of care. Care for one another is what our US Declaration of Independence promised and what “the People” through our US Constitution are meant to deliver to everyone. This is in contrast to the care the people are meant to deliver to a monarch or dictator.

All of our laws have a moral foundation that defines the standard of care. Progressivism delivers care to everyone just because we are human beings and born free and equal in dignity and rights. Conservatism ideally limits care to white male billionaires, which is what conservatism’s “limited government” means. Consequently, progressives work to protect and expand everyone’s freedom, while conservatives work to protect and expand white male billionaire’s freedom.

"Everyone has duties to the community..."

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 29

President Biden talks about the American ideal all the time. America the idea of strong, diverse communities of nurturing families caring for each other in our families, ethical businesses, and government at all levels.

As you watch the debate tonight, consider keeping a tally of the following core American values that President Biden uses tonight that are based on our commitment to the duty of care for one another.

Strength, Empathy, and Responsibility

Protection, Fulfillment, and Fairness

Freedom, Prosperity, and Opportunity

Community, Service, and Collaboration

Honesty, Open-Communication, and Trust

Practice Makes Perfect.

We must make empathy central to constant public discourse.

All Americans have a duty of care. When we practice exercising our duty of care, we get better at it and make government effective.

However, we currently have a national empathy deficit. This empathy deficit has to do with our individual brains. Current research tells us that we can reverse our national empathy deficit by making empathy, i.e., the duty of care, the soul of democracy, central to constant public discourse. That's why I hope you will look for ways President Biden is delivering on our mutual duty of care and share them with your friends.

In addition, consider joining the PROJECT CARE TEAM. Team members promise to engage both their neighbors AND their state legislators about passing legislation to implement CARE Education - Cultivate All Rights Empathy - your state. Project CARE Team members seek to make cultivating empathy and learning about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights mandatory for all students in grades K-12. Project CARE Team members promise to engage their centers of influence or their state legislators once a week and complete a 1-minute Project CARE Team survey once a week.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate you.
